3   Correspondence.

- Mr. Jay Cormier; Offer for children shows during the 2004 Summer Festival.  The Secretary will contact Mr. Cormier and ask him to give us a fixed price for 15 shows and workshops spread throughout the three days plus transportation and accommodation costs.  Final decision is differed to the next meeting.

- BIAs in Northern Ontario:  Memo, January 2004; Info.  The President will verify his schedule to see if he is available for the BIAs in Northern Ontario Conference from March 21st to 23rd, 2004.

4   Capital Projects 2004.

- It is suggested to add the following items to the 2004 BIA budget, that will be submitted to the Municipality for approval:

  • $1,000 for the purchase of a Christmas decoration that would be installed at the intersection of 9th and George St., where the Christmas tree was installed before.  It is suggested to install a Christmas lights arrangement as it is less heavy.
  • $1,000 for repairs to street lamps.  The BIA will also ask the Municipality to do repairs on 12 black street lamps.  The Municipality had committed itself to do these repairs in 2001.
- The Secretary suggested to ask the Municipality to designate the BIA as "lead" for the development of a Welcome Center for tourists arriving on the train.  This project is considered a priority for the development of the tourism industry in the 20/20 study.  It is the most promising project for the BIA sector.  The development of a parking North of Hwy. 11 and near the potential site of this center could be jointly developed.  There is a lot of work to do for regrouping different public and private groups interested in the project. $1,000 will be included in the budget for the development of a plan and/or model, once the project is at this stage.

5   Ice Sculptures Contest.

- Nobody has officially registered yet.  Different groups have demonstrated some interest.  Mike suggests that the BIA do a sculpture along Hwy. 11, North of the intersection at 9th St.

- Report as of February 4th, 2004: 14,829 "hits" (14,288 on Dec. 11th) = 541 "hits".
