Meetings

This page will contain the minutes of the BIA's last executive committee meeting, along with the agenda of the upcoming meeting a few days prior to said meeting. Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month.

2007 Annual Meeting

The last BIA executive's monthly meeting was held on Wednesday February 13, 2008. Here were the subjects discussed:

1   Opening - Agenda.

2   Report of the meeting held on November 28th, 2007.

3   List of cheques and current financial statements.

- The list of cheques issued between November 1st and December 31st, 2007 for a total amount of $4,711.73 as well as financial statements as of December 31st were presented for approval.  Prop. by: Marc D., Supp. by: Shana V.  CARRIED


4   Winners of Christmas Draws.

- Thérèse St-Gelais, Dec. 1st - $500; Cathy Aubertin, Dec. 9th - $250; Éric Deschamps, Dec. 15th - $250.


5   Hearst Carnival.

- The BIA has sponsored the 3rd prize for ice sculptures again this year.  The winner of the 3rd prize is Jamie Boilard.  Gérald acted as judge representing the BIA.

Benches.

-  Members requested that Diane ask the company for the benches if we could have them made of oak instead of the regular ones we ordered.

2008 Annual Meeting.

-  Members decided to hold the 2008 Annual meeting after the OBIAA conference in Collingwood.  The scheduled date is May 8th, 2008.  This subject will be discussed again at the next meeting and ideas for guest speakers brought forward.

Santa Claus at the Library.

-  With the decreasing popularity for this event, members decided to cancel it next year and put more effort in the Santa Claus Express instead.

Other subjects.

a) Euphoria closed.  Since Euphoria is now closed, Mr. Blanchette can no longer be on the BIA Executive, we will try to find someone to fill the vacant position at the Annual meeting.
 
b) Special meeting for the 2008 Budget: A committee was formed with Marc D., Gérald G. and Mike W. to discuss the 2008 Budget.

c) 2008 Summer Festival: The 2008 Summer Festival will be held on July 3-4 and 5 this year.  This year, the Committee for the Festival will be formed with:  Gérald G., Sylvie M. and Mike W.  Other members are also welcome to attend the meetings.  It is recommended to open a special file where all documents and correspondence received concerning the Festival will be kept for discussion during meetings.

d) Medieval: Michelle Fauchon talked to Gérald G. about being present at the Summer Festival with the Medieval.  Gérald will give Michelle's coordinates to Diane.

e) Hearst.ca: Shana explained to members how to find the BIA on the Hearst.ca web site.  We have to click on Residents and Business.  With a “login name” and a “password”, we can make changes or add information concerning our organization.  Shana also informed members that she has a new blog at www.visithearstblogspot.com and that Daniel Sigouin also has one at www.hearstontario.blogspot.com.

f) Mike showed members an add that was published in the newspaper Le Nord concerning the community improvement program where it is said that the Town of Hearst will hire a consultant to prepare an improvement plan for Front Street and the downtown area.

g) Marc D. is still interested to attend the 2008 OBIAA annual conference in Collingwood.  Mike and Gérald are also interested.

h) Marc D. says that the downtown area would be more joyful if, during the Midnight Magic, we would play Christmas music downtown.  He also suggested to install speakers on the kiosk roof.
