- Cinéma Cartier: Following
Marc's request, Diane inquired with Daniel at Cinéma Cartier about
the participation on a monthly basis and Diane reported that Daniel has
said that approximately 500 persons go to the theater every week.
Clients are mostly teenagers, but there are many adults too, depending
on the featured movie. Members decided to take an ad with Cinéma
Cartier to announce the Summer Festival.
- Chamber of Commerce:
Diane reported that it is the BIA Association that is a member of the Chamber
of Commerce, therefore it's the Association itself that can benefit from
discounts. But the BIA can designate a representative to benefit
from these discounts; ex.: President, Vice-President or other member of
the executive.
- «Improvement Facade
Program» for Hearst: Diane called the municipality and she reported
that no programs like this existed for the town of Hearst. Shana
said that the Hwy 11 Improvement Plan is now final. Gérald
also mentioned that street lights have to be repaired and Marc said that
there will be funds for that under the Hwy 11 Improvement Plan. Gérald
will act as a representative for the BIA on the tourist committee.
- Gérald mentioned that
he would like that George St. be closed for a period of one month this
summer in order to install tables and chairs for people downtown, for them
to sit down, play cards, etc., and to create a pleasant atmosphere downtown.
Members do not think it's a good idea, as we have to think about parking
spaces, deliveries, etc. Mike said that we could maybe ask more restaurants
to install a patio. Marc said that we could maybe install tables
and chairs where space permits it on sidewalks instead of closing the street.
Marc and Gérald will look more closely into this. Members
think that we could install flower boxes on 9th Street, this would create
a more attractive environment.
- Santa and elves suits:
Following a suggestion from Shana, a form has been printed to better control
the suits whereabouts. From now on, a deposit of $50 will be asked
for each suit leased and this deposit will be reimbursed upon the suits
return. Members think that this is a good idea. It is also
mentioned to make a list of every item being part of a suit, this way,
it would be easier to know if something is missing.
- Resignation: Sylvie
Leroux has resigned from the BIA committee. Mike suggested to ask
the new Manager at Northern Store if she would be interested in becoming
a member of the executive.
- Christmas decorations:
The majority of the members think that Christmas decorations should be
removed as soon as the holidays are over. The municipality also delayed
the removal of decorations because of a work overload at the time.
Mike said that the if the municipality cannot remove the decorations when
the time comes, that a contractor should be hired to do the work.
Marc will inquire with Veikko of the H.P.D.C.
- Book Fair: Gérald
mentioned that the Book Fair would like to install banners downtown announcing
the event. Gérald offered to install them for free, but Mike
reported that they should pay the usual $150 to install the banners.
Gérald will give us more details at the next meeting.
- Donation from CIBC:
Mike asked if we have received the donation of $1000 from CIBC for Santa's
Express and Diane said no. Mrs. Mitron, from the CIBC, had confirmed
the donation to Mike.
- Summer Student:
Mike suggested to hire a student this summer. |
