Improvement Plan met twice in March and that it is now confirmed
that new street lights will be installed downtown and on

picture of the new street lights was provided to members.
Mike also mentioned that a park will be installed on the

New banners.
- The Municipality suggested
that the BIA purchase 40 new summer banners to be installed
in June on the new street lights. Diane provided members
with examples of designs for the new banners along with
a quote from an American company. Members think that it
would best if the banners were purchased from a Canadian
company instead and they suggested to call CPM Rentals to
inquire if they could provide us with this kind of banners.
Diane will call CPM Rentals.

New
BIA logo and contest.
- It was suggested to
refresh the BIA logo considering the improvements that will
be made this summer downtown. Members responded that they
were satisfied with the existing logo and do not wish to
change it. There is also the fact that people know the Hearst
BIA under this logo, so why change it.

Other
subjects.
-
Diane informed members that the operations' surplus from
previous years will be adjusted in 2010 to reflect the new
law on capital expenses. We will now have to capitalize
capital expenses and amortize them over many years.
- Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting: Members think that
the Chamber of Commerce should have sent letters to all
merchants in advance instead of calling each of them at
the last minute to invite them to their annual meeting..
- Mike think that the BIA billboards along Highway 11 should
be replaced with new ones. He will check if the BIA could
include this expense under the Community Improvement Plan.
- Katrina informed members that if they wanted to move the
handicapped parking spaces somewhere else, they should say
it soon before the Municipality paints them in blue. Mike
will discuss this with Marc Dufresne.
- Patricia informed members that the OPP is now conducting
foot patrols downtown in order to increase security.
- Katrina informed members that it is also possible that
cameras be installed downtown. A public meeting will be
held soon to discuss this issue.
