Subjects discussed :

1   Meeting Opening.

- Agenda : Proposed by Mike Wilson, supported by L. Charlebois - ADOPTED as modified by adding "New Members" at number 6.

2   Pecuniary interests.

- None.

3   Report on April 5th, 2001 meeting and on annual meeting.

- It is noted that Omer Cantin's suggestion to have a map detailing sites of interest to tourists installed at the Tourist Information Centre and at the Downtown, is not present on the annual meeting report draft. As such, the April 5th meeting report is adopted, and so is the annual meeting report, as modified. Proposed by L. Charlebois, supported by F. Lecours.

4   Correspondence (Hearst Ecomuseum) .

- Subject : Use of iMac computer. The Ecomuseum recently offered to take care of the web page in exchange for the possibility of using the BIA's computer, which is presently at the Hearst Information Center. However, our intern, who designed the BIA's web page, has now landed a job with the Chamber of Commerce at said Information Center. Thanks to an agreement between the two parties, the intern will update, without charge, our web page while our computer stays in his use for the Chamber. It is therefore decided to humbly turn down the Ecomuseum's offer, for now.

5   UCFO : Donation Request.

- The BIA is requested to donate any amount of money for the UCFO to have the means to organize a children's festival. The BIA declines as its members are quite saturated as it is with donations requests from individuals and organisations, and acquiesce to many of them.

6   Board Presidency, New Members.

- Mr. Tremblay indicates that he would be willing to withdraw his resignation and remain president of the BIA. The members of the board graciously accept his offer.

The secretary mentions that Mrs. Dallaire no longer works in the downtown, and therefore can no longer be a part of the board. Mrs. Fanny Benoît has resigned from the board. Since there already was one vacant seat among the board, there are now three. As proposed by M. Wilson and supported by L. Charlebois, Mrs. Benoît's resignation is accepted with regrets, and the following people will be recommended to the Municipal Council to be a part of the BIA executive : Gérald Gaudreault, Daniel Larochelle and Terry Brunet. ADOPTED.

7   Summer Festival 2001 Schedule.

- The summer intern, punctuated by the secretary and former intern, presents a list of activities for the Festival. As proposed by R. Gratton and supported by C. Brochu, three inflatables will be rented for the three-day duration of the Festival. ADOPTED.

Costs to be demanded of customers wishing to use the rides will be determined at the next meeting, along with other matters pertaining to the Festival.

8   One-Way Traffic and 45-Degree Parking On George Street.

- This idea was Mr. Emilien Lebel's at the annual meeting. It is proposed that the secretary will check wth the Peach Associates study on the Downtown, which touched on the subject. The main reason for considering this course of action would be to create more downtown parking. It is also recommended that parking in the Downtown Municipal parking be made free.

9   Summer Student to be shared with CommunicAction and LOGEPOP.

- Poposed by E. Mignault, supp. by L. Charlebois, that Stéphanie Martel split her working time between the three organisms (BIA, CommunicAction, LOGEPOP) and that the expenses for her salary and benefits be split between the three and covered in part by Connexion Emploi. ADOPTED.

10   Common Sign outside of GinSue building.

- Prop. by E. Mignault, supp. by L. Charlebois - that the BIA accepts to share the costs of a sign to be put up in the windows of the GinSue building, at eye level. The sign would indicated that in this building can be found the offices of the BIA, the LOGEPOP and of CommunicAction, and that the three organisations share the costs. ADOPTED.

11   August 2001 SideWalk Sale.

- The possibility of presenting a SideWalk Sale at the beginning of September will be discussed at the next meeting. This time window could be quite profitable as this is often the period when the most school-related purchases are made, and the SideWalk Sale is held with the Back To School theme. There is also the possibility of the Cannuk Circus being in Hearst at those dates.

12   Other Subjects :

- Mrs. Francine Lecours mentions that Hearst is the region's only town, to her knowledge, that still applies parking fees on Friday nights and Saturdays.
