Meetings

This page will contain the minutes of the BIA's last executive committee meeting, along with the agenda of the upcoming meeting a few days prior to said meeting. Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month.

The minutes of previous meetings will be available in the Archives section of the site.

The last BIA executive's monthly meeting was held on Thursday October 7th, 2004. Here were the subjects discussed:

1   Opening - Agenda.

- Accepted as presented.


2   Reports of the meeting held on April 1st, 2004.

3   Correspondence.

- None.


4   Delegation.

- None.


5   2004 Budget.

- Statement at September 30th, 2004 and forecast to December 31st, 2004.  The Secretary summarized these documents.  A surplus of $2,500 is forecasted for the end of 2004, this should balance the accumulated deficit.  The list of cheques presented will be submitted for approval at the next meeting.


6   Halloween.

- This year, Halloween is on a Sunday, thus there will be no candy distribution by businesses downtown. The Secretary will inform the newspaper and fire chief.


7   2005 Summer Festival on July 7th, 8th and 9th; major events.

- In order to enhance this 2005 event, since this is the 25th Edition of the festival, it is suggested to use part ($2,000?) of the special reserve of $3,500 presently in the Assets of the BIA.  The "Regroupement des événements et festivals francophones et bilingues du nord de l'Ontario" will publish 8,500 more copies of their 2005 calendar after having corrected the dates for the Summer Festival and Festival de l'Orignal.  We will also inform Rita Brisson, at the Town of Hearst, of the dates for the 2005 Summer Festival and other dates to be included in the Town's calendar.

Quote.

- There will be a request for tenders published in the October 13th, 2004 newspaper edition, for the storing of benches and garbage cans and for other manual work in the downtown area.  Gérald Gaudreau will meet with Claude Laflamme to discuss the possibility to store the benches and garbage cans, as well as Christmas decorations, at the airport hangar and to find a better way to use the space at the hangar.

New members.

- Lorraine Charlebois will leave the BIA Board as she is moving her business to the new "Plaza", which is outside the BIA boundary.  The November meeting will be her last.  Potential new members are suggested.  The President will contact these persons.  Mrs. Sonia Bolduc will be invited to the next meeting.

Other subjects.

- There are two new businesses to open soon in the downtown area; A shop for women at 825 George St. and an optometrist at 822 George St.
- Small business week starts on October 18th, with many interesting seminars for the businessperson.
- The Secretary will contact the Chamber of Commerce to inquire if there will be a Santa Claus Express this year.  If there is, Colette will replace Rosanne Gratton as representative of the BIA.
- The following dates for Christmas promotion are approved: Appreciation weekend - from December 2nd to 5th, Midnight Magic - on Friday December 3rd.  Business owners will be encouraged to open their business on Sundays during the month of  December.
- Mike will check the state of our winter banners.
- Alternative places for the ice sculptures during the carnival: the Tourist Center for its visibility and the Imperial Oil lot, North of Hwy. 11 at 9th Street intersection.
