This page will contain the minutes of the BIA's last executive committee meeting, along with the agenda of the upcoming meeting a few days prior to said meeting. Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month.

2006 Annual Meeting

The last BIA executive's monthly meeting was held on Thursday November 30th, 2006. Here were the subjects discussed:

1   Opening - Agenda.

2   Report of the meeting held on November 2nd, 2006.

- Minutes from the meeting held on November 2nd, 2006.  Prop.  by: Isabelle B., Supp. by: Sylvie L.  CARRIED.


3   List of cheques issued between November 1st and November 29th, 2006 and current financial statements.

- The list of cheques issued between November 1st and November 30th, 2006 for a total amount of  $1,771.40, as well as current financial statements were presented for approval.  Prop. by: Sylvie O, Supp. by: Gérald G. CARRIED.


4   Repairs to kiosk.

- Diane informed members that Hearst Glass had done excellent work on the kiosk.  The only thing remaining is painting of door sides, which will be done when temperature permits.  Diane said that she is very satisfied of the new doors, but that cork should be thicker.  She will contact Hearst Glass to see what can be done.  Mike suggested to post name of business members of the BIA in one of the kiosk sides.


5   Santa Claus Express.

- Diane informed members that elf costumes could not be located and that Thérèse had posted an ad on CINN-FM in order to find them.  If we don't find them, CINN-FM has offered to lend us their elf costumes for Santa Claus Express next Sunday.  350 coloring books have been bought and the "Centre de la Petite Enfance" offered plasticine for the kids.  IGA and Valu-Mart will be contributing 350 bottles of water, Rotary Club will donate $1,000, and the donation from CIBC is still to come.  Diane said that she met all volunteers and all is going well.  Sylvie Otis and her met with Mario Pitre, Sergeant Grant Ayres and Marcel Dillion to discuss preparations and security.

Christmas Calendar.

- Diane informed members that Christmas calendars were distributed to all businesses downtown.  The calendar has also been inserted into the Weekender.

Correspondence.

- Letter from "l’Association des transports communautaires de Hearst" requesting financial help.  All members are in favour, but they would like to know if this is a one time donation or if this would be every year before they make their decision.  Marc D. will try to obtain more information from the Municipality.  This item will be discussed at the next meeting.

 - Email from Markham Village BIA: Christmas wreaths for sale.  Members are not interested.

 - Toronto Economic Development - Business Improvement Program: Mike asked Diane to call Daniel Sigouin to know if this program will be available for Hearst and if the Hearst BIA would qualify. 

 - Crozier Agencies: Christmas Sale Brochure: info.

Other subjects

- Christmas decorations have been installed by CristoBond Electrical as the Hearst Power Distribution could not install them due to tight schedule.  CristoBond will check all lights, as some are broken. 

 - Gérald said that R. Joanis had will try to fabricate a special tool to install banners without climbing a ladder.  He will give us more detail at the next meeting.

 - Isabelle from the Brew Shack said that the street light in front of her store is not working.  She called the Municipality about it but nothing was done.  Other members said that there were other street lights downtown not working.  Diane will contact the Municipality about this.

 - Isabelle said that traffic lights at the corner of 9th and Front did not change often enough.  Diane will call the Municipality about this.

 - Mike informed D. Rempel, our special guest, that if she was interested in becoming a member of the Executive Committee, she will have to ask permission from the owner of the building where her store is located first, and then her name will be submitted to the Municipality for approval.
