Meetings

This page will contain the minutes of the BIA's last executive committee meeting, along with the agenda of the upcoming meeting a few days prior to said meeting. Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month.

The minutes of previous meetings will be available in the Archives section of the site.

The last BIA executive's monthly meeting was held on Thursday December 8th, 2005. Here were the subjects discussed:

1   Opening - Agenda.

- The meeting was declared open at 7:40 a.m.  The Agenda was Prop. by: G. Gaudreau, Supp. by: S. Otis; CARRIED.


2   Reports of the meeting held on November 3rd, 2005.

3   Santa Claus' Express.

- Colette reported that, during the Santa Claus Express, everything went well, except that she would suggest that, for future years, children's gifts be all the same.  Gifts should also be more durable and maybe new gifts purchased.  The organization was perfect.  More than 400 children and 20 volunteers boarded the train.  Mike suggested to send a thank you letter to all people involved in the Santa Claus Express.  Thérèse said that this was the responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce and that she will call Renée Veilleux to remind her.


4   Midnight Magic.

- Many members reported that their customers were frustrated about the fact that nothing was put on parking meters to advertise the free parking days.  Next year, parking meters will have to be covered to inform people about free parking.
- Some members said that it would be a good idea to have businesses hold a draw each at their respective store during the Appreciation Weekend.
- A thank you letter will be sent to the Hearst High School choral for their devotion at entertaining the community during the Midnight Magic, and another letter to Santa's impersonator for that night.


5   Winter Carnival.

- Sylvie O. did not attend the last Winter Carnival Committee meeting and no report is available.


6   List of cheques issued between November 1st and November 30th, 2005.

-  The list of cheques issued between November 1st and November 30th, 2005 in the amount of $337.41, was presented for approbation.  Prop. by: S. Otis, Supp. by: G. Gaudreau.  CARRIED


7   Correspondence.

- De Beers Canada - Agreement with Attawapiskat First Nations - Info.
- REFO - 2006 French Tourist Guide - The 2006 Tourist Guide will be published soon - The BIA will post a free ad again this year.
- Festivals and Events Ontario - Promotion - The advertising costs are too high for the BIA budget.
- Junkyard Symphony - A group specializing in festival shows is available to perform across Ontario during the summer - Thérèse will request more information from them.
- Hearst Ecomuseum - request for support and presentation - The Hearst Ecomuseum would like the BIA to write a letter to support their initiative to obtain funds from Heritage Canada.  Members are in favor and Thérèse will write them a letter of support.

Other subjects.

- Daniel Sigouin - meeting concerning street lamps: Daniel would like to meet with Gérald and Mike to discuss about the purchase and installation of new street lamps downtown.  Many decisions have to be taken on this project.  Mike and Gérald agreed and asked Daniel to schedule the meeting and keep them informed about it.
