1. Do you know the meaning of B.I.A. or Business Improvement Area? Answers: Yes = 6 No = 1 N/A: 12. What does the Hearst B.I.A. means for you? Answers:
- Group of businesses and services in the downtown area between 3rd and 10th Streets and Front and Prince Streets.
- Hearst Downtown Businesses Association.
- Group of businesses in the downtown area (only) representing businesses at the municipality level.
- Group of businesses in the downtown area for the improvement of commerce in general.
- It means finding ways to change or to beautify Hearst Center Core.
- Small downtown group looking only for their interest.
- Beautification of the downtown area: flowers, public benches, etc.
- A group of merchants that work together to improve their area of business and better serve the buying community.3. In your opinion, who are the members? Answers:
- Building owners.
- Downtown building owners and businesses.
- Downtown businesses on George Street.
- All businesses between 12th and 6th Streets can become members on a voluntary basis.
- Not sure, but I think it must be people from downtown.
- Downtown businesses.
- I don't know, maybe all downtown businesses.
- All the downtown core of merchants from about 6th Street to about 12th Street, Front and Edward Streets.4. Again, in your opinion, what role should the B.I.A. play in Hearst? Answers:
- The BIA should put a good system in place in order to encourage local people, and also visitors, to take full advantage of products and services offered downtown.
- The BIA should work for all retail businesses in Hearst and should join with the Hearst Chamber of Commerce.
- If the BIA expands its territory, will the services be doubled with the Chamber of Commerce?
- Their role should be limited to a promotion agency, doing marketing.
- Creating ways to attract customers downtown. Coming up with new ideas like patios, very good idea for summer.
- Improve service to customers in order to encourage local buying for all services. Increase visibility/promotion.
- Beautify the downtown area, encourage new businesses to establish, bring the downtown area to a more lively atmosphere, create partnerships with other groups like the Ecomuseum, etc.
- Possibly responsible for decorating during theme seasons. Run contests during special times of the year to encourage their buyers to enter their businesses. Possibly reach out to find out how they can better serve the public with their goods and services.5. What changes, if there is any changes to be done, would you make to the Hearst B.I.A.? Answers:
- I don't know enough to suggest any changes.
- I can't say.Structure and composition:
- Join with the Chamber of Commerce and avoid doubling services.
- I think the structure is good and, from my point of view, they seem to be doing a good job, which I'm sure isn't easy.
- I think that the B.I.A. and the Chamber of Commerce should be only one association.Operation and goals:
- Downtown businesses could become a sub-committee of the Chamber of Commerce.
- Change their objective.
- One of their goal or function should probably address the fact that some of these businesses should improve their facades and look into more parking.Membership:
- If business owners have their work to do to beautify the downtown area, businesses should, for their part, be members to insure there is a sufficient diversity of products and services offered downtown.
- Include all businesses in Hearst.
- Increase their members.
